Dr Shanaka Sarathchandra

BVSc (dist), MANZCVS (small animal medicine, small animal radiology), GradDipVetStud (Dist)

Shanaka graduated from Massey University in 2004 and has worked in veterinary clinics in Australia, the UK, and New Zealand. He completed a Small Animal Rotating Internship at the University of Sydney in 2006 and has been working full-time at Pet Doctors Hamilton since 2012.

Shanaka was awarded National Veterinary Care’s Most Outstanding Veterinarian in 2019 and VetPartners Veterinarian of the Year in 2023. He has been an examiner for the Radiology Chapter of the Australian and New Zealand College of Veterinary Scientists (ANZCVS) for the past five years and is a member of the NZVA Companion Animal Vets Committee.

He enjoys all areas of veterinary medicine, particularly imaging and building strong relationships with clients and their pets.

Outside of work, Shanaka enjoys cooking, reading, and trail running.
